Cottondale city election

Mar 14, 2022

Cottondale had two Commissioners Seats up for election this year. Seat #1 occupied by Mr. Brian Braxton went unopposed. Vacant Seat #2 has two candidates. The race is on between Mr. Jerrard Deese and Mr. Dennis Sloan. Your City Clerk sent both candidates an email asking them a few questions about why they chose to run for the Cottondale Commissioner Seat #2. The questions are as follows:

  1. Can you tell us a little of your background and family?
  2. How long you’ve you lived in Cottondale?
  3. Why would you like to serve the City of Cottondale as a City Commissioner?
  4. What type of changes would you like to see for the city?
  5. Is there anything else you’d like the voters of Cottondale?

Below are the answers from each candidate.

candidate Jerrard Deese

I am Jerrard Deese and I am running for Cottondale City Commission. I am a lifelong resident of Cottondale and have given my entire adult life to making our community a better place to live, work, and play.

I have served our city, state, and nation in the Florida Army National Guard since 2008 and I am a retired Captain with the Florida Department of Corrections.

I would like to see a revitalization of the main street in Cottondale, more attention placed on our recreation park for our children in the community and set up more programs where our citizens of the community can voice their interest and concerns.

I have been a public servant my entire adult life. Working for my community of Cottondale would be the greatest honor that could be bestowed upon me.

I promise to continue to show the same dedication to the City of Cottondale that I have throughout the years. I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming election on April 12, 2022 at the Cottondale Community Center.

Candidate Dennis Sloan

My name is Dennis Sloan. I’m running for seat 2 of the Cottondale City Commission. I moved to Cottondale in 1972 shortly after I married my wife, Janice. We have a son (Adam) and daughter (Lindsay) who now have families of their own.

I retired from the Florida Department of Transportation in 2010 after 43 years. I would like to serve on the Board of Commissioners because I think I have some experience that may be helpful to the city.

Our city employees have had quite an undertaking since hurricane Michael and have done a commendable job on our recovery. But we still have a way to go and hopefully I can be of help if elected.

Please come out and exercise your right to vote on April 12th at the Cottondale Community Center.
